Mr Rana also stressed the need for accountability of educational institutions, saying this is important for achieving the objective of imparting quality education, especially at the basic and primary level of schooling. The teachers and parents have added responsibilities in this regard, he maintained and called for periodical interaction between the two for identifying grey areas and taking timely corrective measures, wherever required.

“Shaping the course of young minds is a most delicate phenomenon and it can be achieved only when teachers, parents and students are on the same wave length”, Mr Rana said while enumerating the various challenges for harmonious growth of youngsters in this era of stress and strain. He said the challenges are manifold and can be overcome only when a congenial atmosphere is created for their harmonious growth. “While parents can play a supportive role in shaping the future of their children, it is actually a teacher who can mould them well to meet the challenges with courage and fortitude”, he said adding that the relationship has to be positive and based on trust. He said the role of teachers and parents becomes more crucial when children are in tender age and unable to take their own decisions. “This is the point where sound base and right direction assumes greater significance”, he maintained.

Exhorting teachers to inculcate spirit of brotherhood and discipline by imparting moral education alongside the prescribed courses, Mr Rana said that this can be achieved when the teachers become role model for their taught. “Their role is not imperative only in making children academically sound but they can have tremendous influence on their social behaviour as well”, he said adding that the students need lessons of life alongside guidance on the subject matter for becoming useful citizens of tomorrow.

Pointing to the interest being evinced by parents to the events connected with overall growth of their children, Mr Rana said this will go a long way in instilling sense of confidence among their wards and encourage them to give their best during competitions. He said sports and other activities are imperative for making youngsters versatile enough to face this competitive world with much more confidence and vigour.
